At Lake City Early Childhood Center, the mission is Ensuring Success through the Arts: Every day, every child, every chance! LCECC is a PreK-2nd grade school with 508 students. It is a Title One school with 95% of the school population receiving free/reduced lunch. The school is in the rural community of Lake City, home of the 9 days art competition known as ArtFields. They offer music and visual arts daily and bring in artists in residence for dance and drama. LCECC strives for all of classrooms to be arts integrated, focusing on integrating arts to reach every child. This year, the school provided multiple experiences through arts-focused field trips, collaborative units of study, and Artists-in-Residence. Partnerships were built with Moore’s Botanical Gardens and the Jones-Carter Gallery to provide STEAM-based, innovative opportunities. The integration of arts-activities also increases parental involvement. Performances such as the annual Holiday play and Spring performances with the Bailee Players’ provide opportunities for students to showcase their learning for their families. Other family-based events include Curriculum Nights, Father/Daughter Dance, Prom with Mom, Trunk-or-Treat, Character Parade, Fairy tale Ball, the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and the Hat Parade. The School Improvement Council and Arts Steering Committee continue to collaborate in the development of other community/parent-based arts events. The afterschool program is funded through a 21st Century Learning Communities Grant. This program offers enrichment in the arts and uses a STEAM based curriculum. Grant awards include: The 21st Century Learning Communities Grant beginning in 2010, and Florence Regional Arts Alliance Quarterly Grant in 2015.
