New Prospect Elementary is a rural neighborhood Title One school nestled at the foothills where community and staff are committed to providing the best instruction and experiences for students to become lifelong learners equipped for success. The Art Mission of the school is to maximize student potential through a quality, student centered arts education. One Community, One Purpose, Every Child. The school serves 366 students in grades 4K-6th grade. Free and reduced lunch is served to around 52% of the school population. Music and visual arts are offered to all students and band and strings are offered for 6th grade. This arts centered school has several after school activities for the arts such as Honors Chorus, Studio Art, and Drama Club. New Prospect is a 2015 Exemplary Reading School and a 2013 National Blue Ribbon School. The principal was named South Carolina Art Education Association Principal of the Year in 2015 and South Carolina Administrator of the Year for 2014/2015. In 2015 the school was awarded Palmetto Gold, received the First Tee Grant and the NSPRA Golden Achievement Award. In 2014 the school received the Healthy School Project Grant. The ABC grant has provided New Prospect with opportunities for using creative arts strategies throughout the school by having students experience formal arts performances, artist in residency programs, arts integration activities with the visual art and music teachers, and integrated activities in every classroom that includes music, visual art, drama, and movement. The school also enjoys a strong community partnership through generous parent support and possesses a strong ABC Steering Committee.
