Philip Simmons Elementary is a newly built community school in the Berkeley County School District that serves the communities of Cainhoy, Wando, and Daniel Island. Philip Simmons Elementary was created as a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM), is now an Arts in Basic Curriculum school to build upon our transdisciplinary approach to education. It is one of three STEAM schools in the school district. Our school is named in memory of the famous artist from our community, Philip Simmons, for his innovative iron work. We currently serve just over 400 students from Child Development age 4 through 4th grade. Our school and its teachers have been partnering with Clemson University for the last three years to help develop strong STEAM practices throughout the entire school year.
