Ridge View High School is a suburban neighborhood school serving 1400 students in grades 9-12. The mission of the fine arts at Ridge View High School is to significantly improve student achievement in dance, media arts, theatre, music, and visual arts through development of curriculum, instruction, and assessment based on the South Carolina Academic Standards for Visual and Performing Arts and the South Carolina Academic Standards for Media Arts. Ridge View is an arts focused school with a specialized “School within a School” for talented and gifted arts students. The School for the Arts is an interdisciplinary arts program in which students are immersed within a focus area while simultaneously exploring other arts interests. Ridge View offers a wide variety of courses in following arts areas: dance, media arts, theatre, orchestra, band, chorus, and visual art. Ridge View High School has the distinction of being the first high school ABC site. The fine arts at Ridge View offer several Talented and Gifted courses including: Dance, Studio Art, AP Art History, and AP Music Theory. The Ridge View fine arts programs have been recognized for their excellence with numerous awards and distinctions including: 2002 SC Dance Educator of the Year, Superior and Excellent Ratings every year since 2005 at the SCMEA Orchestra Division State Assessment, Superior Ratings for Symphonic Band each year since 1997, Band Director was inducted into the SC Band Directors Hall of fame, received “Bandmaster of the Year” from the SC Chapter of Phi Beta Mu in 2015, Superior and Excellent Ratings each year at SCMEA Choral Division State Festivals and ACDA Choral Festivals since 2013, Superior ratings and Overall High School Choral Division Winner at Carowinds Festival of Music (2015), SC Young Filmmakers Prize, SCAEA Promising Young Professional of the Year Award (2014 and 2005); Scholastic Art State Fair Art Winners (1996 – Present).
