Saluda Trail Middle School is a suburban school in Rock Hill, SC. We are celebrating our fifth year as an ABC site. STMS is a magnet school whose programs also include Transform, STEAM and PBL. The mission of Saluda Trail Middle School as an ABC school is to provide an artistically engaging environment that allows all students to imagine, explore, express and create, making their lives more meaningful. Our student population of 823 is made up of 6th, 7th and 8th graders, 72% of whom receive free or reduced lunch. As part of Rock Hill School District 3, we are a 1:1 school. We offer students a unique array of related arts courses such as Visual Art, Chorus, Drama, Band, Digital Photography, Creative Writing, Journalism, Digital Design, Video Production, Digital Media Art, Sculpture, Fashion Design, Digital Piano, Robotics and Yearbook. Project Based Learning and STEAM help drive our Arts Integrated program. We created an arts closet using some of our funding, which helps teachers with resources in all arts areas. Our district offers District Honors Choir, District Honors Band and the Teacher’s Choice Youth Art Exhibit annually to celebrate our gifted and talented students. In addition to ABC, we have received the ACIG DAP Grant from school years 2012-13 to 2014-17. We have been a P21 School for 21st Century Learning since 2014 and gained recognition as a STEM AdvancED school in 2015. Our program extends beyond school hours through such clubs as GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math and Science), Art Warriors (art club), Steel Drum Band, A/V Club, an annual school-wide musical performance, which has participated in Broadway, Jr. since its beginning in 2009 and a spring school-wide art exhibition known as Art Attack. At STMS our purpose is to offer students Real Learning for Real Life.
