Peer-to-peer Network

Provide Opportunities to Discuss Best Practices

The purpose of the Peer-to-Peer network is to provide an opportunity for administrators of ABC (Arts in Basic Curriculum) and DAP (Distinguished Arts Program) sites to discuss and share best practices in order to provide quality arts programming.

The Peer-to-Peer network often coincides with Palmetto State Art Education’s Joint Arts Administrator’s Institute meetings.  This provides the chance for principals, administrators, and arts coordinators to come together and share successes, challenges, and opportunities in arts education.

History

In January 2009, the ABC Institute created the Peer-to-Peer Arts School Principals task force. This task force was made up of ABC Steering Committee members and veteran ABC Site principals and discussed key issues related to being an administrator to providing quality arts programs. The group continued to meet and in March 2010 they created a survey to identify specific needs of ABC principals.

The first full meeting of the ABC Peer-to-Peer Principals Network was held on June 14, 2010 at the SC Arts Commission and was attended by twenty-one principals. Since this time the network has grown to nearly 60 principals and administrators, many of whom credit the Peer-to-Peer network as being a key component to their success as an arts-focused school.
