The mission of Andrew Jackson Middle School and the community is to create productive life-long learners in, with, and through the arts. AJMS has 471 students in grades 6-8. The ethnicity is comprised of 74% Caucasian, 21% African American, 2% Hispanic and 3% other. 51% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. AJMS is a rural neighborhood school that is located at the southern end of Lancaster County and is an Arts Focus School. Students from the entire county are encouraged to audition for acceptance for a specific arts area. Andrew Jackson Middle is a continued Distinguish Arts Program Grant recipient with the following current offerings: dance, theatre, strings, chorus, band, visual arts, and piano. In the 2015-16 school year, 107 students are in the arts focus program which is 23% of the school population. The vision of Andrew Jackson Middle School is to become a quality, collaborative arts integrated school.
