The Beaufort Middle School community envisions all learners, engaged in quality, personalized arts and arts-integrated relevant experiences that guide and prepare students to be successful in an ever-changing global society. The mission is to permeate the school culture and curriculum with the arts. Beaufort Middle School, located in beautiful Beaufort, South Carolina, serves 42 teachers and 532 students in grades 6th through 8th with 311 of students receiving free and reduced lunch. The school population consists of 191 African American students, 251 white students, 51 Hispanic students, 10 Asian, 3 Pacific Islander, and 2 American Indian/Alaska Native students. The community of Beaufort is a wonderful mix of suburban and rural with a wealth of historical preservation and culture. Beaufort Middle is an 8th year recipient of Distinguish Arts Program (DAP) Grant. As an Arts Integrated School of Choice in the Beaufort County School District, Beaufort Middle offers highly qualified visual and performing arts classes, including chorus, band, guitar, orchestra, visual arts, media arts, theatre, creative writing, and dance. Additionally, it currently provides a Classical Studies program for 6th grade students, and will expanding the program to include 7th grade students. Classical Studies provides students with rigorous and engaging hands on lessons, Socratic seminar, language study, and the learning through the arts. For the past two years, students have had the opportunity to join a musical theatre program after school, that culminates in a performance for both BMS family and the community. BMS also offers a growing after school dance program. The vast district, which spans from St. Helena to Hilton Head, offers a summer program for Gifted and Talented students in the Arts and provides district wide screening for gifted and talented arts students.
