Nestled in the Midlands of South Carolina, Kingsbury Elementary School in Sumter is a suburban Title I school serving 816 students in grades PS-5. There are 54 certified staff members. 7.2% of students are identified as special needs. At present, 67% of the students at Kingsbury Elementary School qualify for the free and reduced lunch assistance program. The student population consists of 63% African American, 36% Caucasian and 1% other nationalities. There are two certified arts teachers. Kingsbury is a school of choice which offers art and music once a week for students in grades K-5. The goal at Kingsbury is to become an Arts Integrated school through providing instruction, experiences, and opportunities in creative writing, dance, drama, media arts, music, and visual art to foster in all students the ability to self-express, create, and perform. Currently, students are able to participate in the REACH program, which is the district’s Gifted and Talented Arts program each summer. Kingsbury offers choir, drama, and harp ensemble as after-school arts programs.
