Logan Elementary, located in Columbia, is an urban school within the Richland County School District One area. Logan follows a school within a school model offering both Montessori and traditional methods of instruction; serving students from 3K through 5th grade with an 80% free/reduced lunch population. 265 students attend weekly or bi-weekly classes in visual arts, music, drama, dance, physical education, and Spanish. The Logan Fine Arts mission is to prepare students to actively participate in a global society by engaging, through the use of the arts, students, teachers, and parents, in a safe and nurturing, artistically enriched, educational environment where the academic and artistic potential of all stakeholders is maximized. Logan Elementary teachers infuse the arts into daily instruction using both academic and visual art standards to support student learning. In addition to traditional arts programing, students are given opportunities to participate in performing ensembles, including Dancing Cubs and Paws, Singing Cubs and Singers, a Steel Pan and Drum Ensemble, an all- boys Hip Hop group, and a Drama Club. Students in grades three through five are able to participate in the districts strings program and are offered a piano keyboard class. Logan has been the recipient of an Arts Curricula/Distinguished Arts Program grant since 1996. The arts program at Logan is supported by the SC Arts Commission, SC Department of Education DAP grant, the Richland County School District One Superintendent, the Logan PTO and Logan Foundation. Logan is the host of the annual Logan Elementary Choral Festival and an Arts Integration Conference for ABC schools in Richland School District One.
