Northside Elementary School of the Arts is a Title 1 Arts Integration School of Choice for the Rock Hill Schools with a free/reduced lunch population of approximately 69%. The vision of Northside Elementary School of the Arts is to be a renowned arts and academic community that inspires creativity, courage, and character. Working with the community, the fundamental purpose of Northside Elementary School of the Arts is to provide an inspiring, creative, artistically enriched learning environment where high achievement is the norm, so that all students achieve a lifetime of success. Northside has been a Distinguished Arts Program recipient for multiple years. Northside’s 560 kindergarten through fifth graders participate in the following related arts areas on a weekly basis: drama, dance, music, and visual arts. In addition, students also complete fundamental skills lessons for violin in first and second grades as well as have the option to learn to play the violin in third through fifth grades. Additional music classes offered focus on bucket drumming and handchimes. After school visual arts enrichment is offered at all grades. Performance groups highlight the theatrical, dance, and vocal skills of students at all grade levels and perform yearly at multiple community events. Visual arts students have work showcased in area businesses and cultural centers. These students also have the option to use their talents in set and costume development for the many school level performances. The Rock Hill School District offers the Honors Choir program for fourth and fifth grade students who excel in vocal performance. All Northside students participate in integrated units of study throughout the year during Arts Explorers times, which allow for collaboration between related arts teachers and core content teachers.
